Derek Homer

Delivery Lead, Klarna

Derek became intrigued by technology at the age of six, when he ruined his father's laptop by moving its OS to floppy disc (apparently, there wasn't a way to restore it at the time). Years later, he learned how to use technology "properly", forging a career that took him from IT Support (Workshare Technologies), through Technical Project Management (Nokia) to Agile Delivery (BBC iPlayer, Michelin Bookatable). Derek has now moved to Sweden at the request of Klarna, where he helps coordinate the delivery of their most complex software initiatives. Typically this involves ten or more autonomous engineering teams, each delivering in their own flavour of agile methods including Scrum, XP, Kanban and Mob Programming. Within the last 18 months, Derek has helped launch Klarna's Global Merchant API, their latest B2B offerings, their Rebranding initiative and their upcoming Consumer proposition. Derek is a dreamer and a believer, and is totally fascinated by the interplay between technology, people and radical ways of working that make achieving the impossible possible.

The pop up in your job:

  • My job sits right between Product and Engineering so I get to experience both worlds. I also support up 25+ teams where needed, which means I can work strategically or deep dive on the fly. Klarna is a fast paced environment, and I love the variety this brings. I meet new people from all areas of the business almost daily, and no day is the same.
